RECONCILIATION NSW

Reconciliation NSW envisions a reconciled, just, and equitable community for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all Australians. As the peak body for reconciliation in New South Wales, we lead, educate, and inspire people across the state to engage meaningfully in the reconciliation movement.

We believe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples hold a unique place as the First Peoples of this land. True reconciliation requires more than symbolic actions — it demands real, practical outcomes that address ongoing racism and systemic disadvantage.

Reconciliation NSW is committed to listening to and working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to ensure reconciliation efforts reflect their current interests and priorities. Through education, collaboration, and respect, we aim to build relationships of trust that allow Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures to be recognised, celebrated, and supported to thrive.

CLOSING THE KNOWLEDGE GAP

A key barrier to reconciliation and improved outcomes remains the cultural Knowledge Gap - the gap in understanding, awareness, and capability between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.

Organisations cannot close the gap or deliver sustainable change without first closing the Knowledge Gap at both organisational and individual levels. The Knowledge Gap affects:

  • Internal capability and confidence.
  • Relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • The design, delivery, and success of services and initiatives.

This Knowledge Gap does not exist in isolation. It influences every part of policy, program, and service design. Failure to close it has measurable and lasting consequences, not only for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities but also for the effectiveness of government and organisational investment.

CCCA’S CULTURAL CAPABILITY COURSES

CCCA’s online training pathway is aligned to the Commonwealth Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Capability Framework and provides a structured, scalable approach to developing cultural capability across workplaces and communities. The 2026 course suite supports a progressive learning journey that moves from cultural awareness to cultural competence, and ultimately to cultural safety.

The 2026 course suite includes:

  • Understanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures (Cultural Awareness) – builds foundational awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and contemporary realities.
  • Delivering Stronger Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Outcomes (Cultural Competence) – focuses on applying knowledge in practice to strengthen culturally responsive workplaces, services, and systems.
  • Embedding Cultural Safety: Trauma-Informed Leadership and Practice (Cultural Safety) – supports leaders and practitioners to create culturally safe environments through trauma-informed, reflective practice.

All courses are self-paced, accessible online, and developed in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander subject matter experts. Together, Reconciliation NSW and CCCA are working to close the Knowledge Gap and build a more culturally competent Australia, where respect, understanding, and meaningful partnership drive lasting change.
